Emotions Displayed By Body Language Body Language reflects a person’s emotions, and emotion can span the entire spectrum form of aggression and power to submission and relaxation.

Each of the emotion is associated with a combination of body language from different parts of a person’s body. As Body Language is the Combination of all our non verbal actions that cumulatively reflects the state of mind. People display different body language in different professional interaction.

Desirable Body Language of the Manager…..

  • To wear professional attire.
  • Demeanor indicating interest and attention.
  • Respectful posture towards employee.
  • Eye contact with employee.
  • Leaning slightly forward to convey listening intent.
  • Interspersing listening with talking.

TO WEAR PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE

Whatever profession or in company you are working with. As a manager you must have to wear professional attire, clothes must be cleaned and ironed properly.

You must have a proper hair cut, make up. And must be clean from tip to toes.

DEMEANOR INDICATING INTEREST AND ATTENTION

As a Manager you must have to show your interest and attention towards your subordinate, if you do so they will feel comfortable and will share their views and work procedure.  

RESPECTFUL POSTURE TOWARDS SUBORDINATES

In any company you if you are working as a Manager you have to show your respect to your subordinate no matter they are younger or elder than you. If you show respect to them they will love to work for you and that will help you to move ahead your career.

EYE CONTACT

Remember eye contact is the main zeal of face to face communication. If you are able to make a good eye contact not only your communication will be smooth also as a Manager it will be easy for you to guess what is going on the mind of the other person. 

LEANING SLIGHTLY FORWARD TO CONVEY LISTENING INTENT

While conversing leaning slightly forward shows that you are listening to the person, and they feel comfortable to talk with you.

INTERPRESSING LISTENING WITH TALKING

You must have the capability to listen other while speaking. Don’t be dominating on your speech. If you have any negative comments about any of you team member criticize him in close door room instead of open forum and use open forum to praise him instead of closed door. Try to make him understand his fault and show him the right way. 

 Undesirable Body Language of the Manager…..

  • Unprofessional or informal attire.
  • Disinterested, distracted expression.
  • Eyes wondering across the room.
  • Avoid talking and more listening.
  • Interrupting subordinate often.
  • Receiving/making phone calls.  

UNPROFESSIONAL OR INFORMAL ATTIRE

Remember as a Manager you are in a position that people will admire, so avoid unprofessional or informal attire.

DISINTERESTED , DISTRACTED EXPRESSION

In any meeting with your subordinates don’t show your disinterested or distracted expression. This could hamper your subordinate’s confidence.

EYES WONDERING ACCROSS THE ROOM

Be cautious about your eye movements in the meeting room. Yours wondering eyes can create confusion across the room. It is an insensitive behavior and can damage any relationship.

AVOID TALKING AND MORE LISTENING

As a manager you must have to make a habit of listening instead of talking more.

INTERRUPTING SUBORDINATE OFTEN

If you interrupting your subordinate often it will disturb in their normal speech. And may they miss what they are wanted to say.

RECEIVING/MAKING PHONE CALLS 

Receiving and making phone calls must avoid in any meeting by a manager.
